Data safety (Play Console) — reference
Google’s form changes over time; use this as a checklist. Does your app collect or share any of the required user data types? For ThumpIT, data is mostly entered by the user and kept on-device. You must still declare types that are processed (including via optional system/Google services).
Suggested answers (verify before submit)
| Data type (Play categories) | Collected? | Notes for Console |
|---|---|---|
| Location — Precise | Yes, optional | Used for app functionality when the user grants permission (logs/photos). Processed on device and stored with user content; location services may involve Google Play services. |
| Photos and videos | Yes, user-provided | User captures or attaches images; stored locally. Not sent to developer servers. |
| Audio | Yes, optional | Microphone used only when the user starts voice input; speech processing may use Google / device services per OS behavior. |
| Personal info (names, email, phone, etc.) | Yes, user-provided | Company, crew, clients, and subs fields as entered by the user; stored locally in the app database. |
| App activity / diagnostics | No* | *Unless you add analytics or crash reporting later—if you add Firebase, Sentry, etc., update this declaration and the privacy policy. |
| Device or other IDs | No* | *For advertising ID: not used for ads in the open-source description of this app. If you add ads or analytics IDs, declare them. |
For each “Yes”, Play will ask whether data is encrypted in transit (often N/A for purely on-device storage), whether collection is required or optional, and purposes (e.g. app functionality). Mark Data shared only if data is transmitted to a third party—speech/location may involve Google as the OS provider; follow Google’s current guidance for those cases.
Sensitive permissions & features
- Photo and video / Camera — Declare if Console asks: capturing site photos for daily logs.
- Location — Approximate and precise: attaching coordinates to logs and photos when permitted.
- Microphone — Voice-to-text dictation when the user taps the mic.
If Play requires a video demonstrating sensitive permissions, record a short clip showing permission prompt and the feature in use.
